How to Apply

STEP 2: Sophomore Year Portfolio Review

A portfolio review will be conducted during the second semester of your sophomore year at UF to determine if you will be allowed to continue in the program as a major at the junior/senior level. Please contact the Undergraduate Advisor during your freshman year to learn more about the portfolio review process.

BADAS Portfolio Requirements
Current Students or Changing Majors

STEP 1: Contact the Undergraduate Advisor

Current UF students who are in their second year of the Digital Arts & Science program or considering a change to this major should contact advising as soon as possible.

Email Undergraduate Advisor

STEP 2: Portfolio Application

Your BADAS Portfolio refers to a body of original creative or technical work authored, documented and presented in a digital format. The submitted portfolio should contain examples of the best original work you have done prior to seeking admittance to the BADAS program. This could be work completed as part of your previous education, or original work completed outside of the classroom demonstrating passion, talent, and skill in the areas of digital arts and sciences.

  • There is a $10 submission fee that you pay online after you set up and review your portfolio.
  • Images and videos can be labeled and ordered after they are uploaded. Include the title of the work, medium, size and date. You may also include the URL for your website.

video: .mov, .wmv, .flv – up to 20 MB

PDF: 10 MB per document

Please see SlideRoom for additional instruction for submitting work. For technical assistance, contact support@slideroom.com.

Transfer Students

STEP 1: Welcome

Are you thinking about transferring to the Digital Worlds Institute? You’re in the right spot! Please take the time to thoroughly review all the information and application procedures outlined below. Deadlines are strictly enforced, so ensure that all applications and materials are submitted by the specified deadlines.

STEP 2: Review Prerequisites

The BA in Digital Arts & Science program at the UF Digital Worlds Institute has limited access. Meeting the minimum GPA, completing prerequisite coursework, and submitting a portfolio or statement of intent does not guarantee admission.

For transfer admission, an Associate of Arts Degree (AA Degree) from a Florida state or community college is required. Out-of-state transfer students must complete 60 hours of transferable credits along with the university’s general education requirements.

Transfer Prerequisite Courses

Upper division applicants (students with 60 or more college credits earned) should have at least a 2.0 overall GPA and have completed 12 credits with at least a 2.5 GPA across the following categories:

Mathematics (3 credits required)

  • Precalculus Algebra (MAC 1140)
  • Or a higher-level math course.

Computer Science/Programming (3 credits required)

  • All COP, CAP, or CGS prefixes are acceptable.

Visual Design and Studio Art (3 credits required)

  • One course with an ART prefix required.
  • Examples include Design I (ART 1201C), Design II (ART 1203), Drawing I (ART 1300C), and Drawing II (ART 2301C).

Art Appreciation/History (3 credits required)

  • One course with an ARH prefix required.
  • Examples include Art Appreciation: American Diversity and Global Arts (ARH 2000), Principles and History of Art I (ARH 2050), Principles and History of Art II (ARH 2051).

*Note:

  • All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
  • Unsuccessful attempts in prerequisite courses may lower competitiveness.
  • Unsuccessful attempts in additional courses in the desired major may lower competitiveness.
  • Out of state courses used to meet prerequisites may need to be evaluated by the appropriate department upon admission.
  • Courses with the DIG prefix (Digital Design and Media) are optional and may be used as electives but do not count toward the required 12 credits.
Transfer Credit

The Office of Admissions determines the transferability of credit earned at other institutions. Students may transfer no more than 60 hours from a state college as part of the hours required for a UF degree. The 60 credit hour transfer limit does not apply to coursework taken at a four-year institution.

Using Transferology to Check Credits
See which courses will transfer.

  • Once logged in, click the “Will my courses transfer?” button.
  • Enter the school name where you have taken or plan to take course(s).
  • Enter the term and year of when the course was taken or will be taken.
  • Enter the course prefix and select the course you have taken or plan to take.
  • After you have entered all your courses, click “Search for Matches” button.
  • If any “Maybe” courses appear, click “Contact the school for more information” to request a course evaluation or more information about the school.
Students with 90+ Credits

Students who have achieved advanced upper-division status, 90 credits or more, at a four-year institution may not be admitted. In turn, they are encouraged to complete their degree at their current institution and consider the University of Florida for graduate degree programs.

STEP 3: Apply to the University of Florida

Deadline for Transfer Application: March 1

Make sure to review the admission requirements listed above. All students are encouraged to communicate directly with UF’s Office of Admissions to ensure they meet the university’s central requirements, procedures, and deadlines.

Admission to the University of Florida does not guarantee acceptance into the BA in Digital Arts & Sciences program. Furthermore, gaining admission to the BA in DAS program through a portfolio application or other means does not ensure admission to the University of Florida. All applicants must fulfill the admission requirements for both the University of Florida and the Digital Worlds Institute to be fully accepted into a program. It is the applicant’s responsibility to communicate with both the Digital Worlds Institute and UF’s Office of Admissions to ensure that all requirements are satisfied.

STEP 4: Portfolio Application

To gain acceptance into this program, you must apply directly to the Digital Worlds Institute through a portfolio application (Slideroom). Your BADAS Portfolio Application should showcase a collection of your original creative or technical work, documented and presented in a digital format. The portfolio must include examples of your best original work completed before applying to the BA in DAS program. This may consist of projects from your previous education or original work done outside of the classroom that demonstrates your passion, talent, and skills in digital arts and sciences.
