Minor in Digital Arts & Sciences

The 15-credit Digital Arts and Sciences (DAS) minor crosses traditional college boundaries between the arts, communications, and engineering. Students become versed in contemporary social and interactive media, critical thinking, and creative design solutions. The DAS minor provides experience working in collaborative teams on media projects, including animation, experience design and production, and game design. 

Steps to Apply

STEP 1

Before you apply for this minor, you must complete two of the four 2000-level foundational courses listed below. These classes are open to any UF student, and you will register yourself.  If you apply for the minor before completing two of the four 2000-level foundational courses, your application will be denied. Additionally, Digital Worlds cannot hold or reserve spots for students who are attempting to complete the minor.  

  • DIG 2005 Introduction to Digital Technologies (Fall + Spring + Summer)
  • DIG 2021 Foundations of Digital Culture (Fall + Spring + Summer)
  • DIG 2121 Principles of Digital Visualization (Summer + Spring) 
  • DIG 2632 Intro to Game Design & Development (Summer + Fall)  

STEP 2

Apply for the minor during the semester, you will complete the second 2000-level course. Your application will be reviewed at the end of the semester after receiving final grades.

Request to Add a Minor

STEP 3

Once you have applied for the minor and it is approved and shows up on your degree audit, you will then take three 3000/4000 level courses. These three courses can be any 3000–4000 level course listed below where you meet the prerequisites.

To register for any 3000–4000 level course, you must request them using the Course Request Form. Course requests are approved based on the space available in the course, with priority given to Digital Arts and Sciences majors first, then students who have declared the minor based on their year in school, then students completing an outside concentration, and then students who are looking to take the course as an elective.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why was my minor application denied?
Your application may have been denied because you have not yet completed two 2000-level courses or you do not meet the GPA requirement.

The 2000-level course I am attempting to enroll in has reached its full capacity. Is it possible for Digital Worlds advising to enroll me in the course or reserve a spot for me in the future?
No. Digital Worlds Advising cannot enroll students into 2000-level courses or hold seats for future terms. Most of these courses are offered every Fall, Spring, and Summer, so we encourage you to plan for a different semester if the course you want is at capacity.

I tried to add a 3000/4000 level course, and it says it is departmentally controlled. How do I register for this course? 
To request enrollment in a 3000/4000-level course, you must submit the Course Request Form.

I have not been added to the course I requested. What do I do now? 
Course requests are approved based on available space. Priority is given in this order: BA in Digital Arts and Sciences majors, Declared minors (based on year in school), Students completing an outside concentration, Students taking the course as an elective. Some courses receive more requests than available seats. To stay on track for completing the minor, we recommend requesting a range of different courses instead of only one option.
