TreeTender's Flying Robot CAaLVIN*

To see CAaLVIN levitating in Augmented Reality (AR) get the free TreeTenderMUSE AR app from the appropriate online store below.
Then follow the instructions either over the printed page in the 2018 MUSE Magazine or with the QR code in the image above

For Android devices:

  1. On your device, go to Google Play Apps 
  2. Download the app and then follow the simple instructions below.

For Apple / iOS devices:

  1. On your device, go to Apple iTunes App Store 
  2. Download the app and then follow the simple instructions below.

Once you have successfully downloaded and opened the app: 

  1. Give the app access to your device’s camera if needed.
  2. Point it directly at the white mobile device icon on the upper righthand corner of page 30 of the MUSE Magazine from about 8 inches away.
  3. Hold it still for a few moments and CAaLVIN should appear for you.
  4. Choose ‘Follow’ and CAaLVIN’s gaze will follow yours if you slowly move your phone. If you want to touch and rotate CAaLVIN, use the ‘Rotate’ button.
  5. If CAaLVIN does not appear, move your device quickly off page to re-calibrate and then come back and try Step 1 again from a different angle or distance.

CAaLVIN is the flying robot with a command of biological science who serves as a catalogue assistant and occasional comic foil in the animated movie TreeTender. He is featured in the University of Florida's 2018 MUSE Magazine https://arts.ufl.edu/muse/ and at https://treetender.org

*TreeTender’s Catalog Assistant and Virtual Interface Node (CAaLVIN) is named in honor of Melvin Calvin, who received the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the second stage of photosynthesis, commonly known as the Calvin Cycle.
